Why did i pursue this Certification

I pursued the GIAC Security Leadership certification to deepen my understanding of security management and strengthen my ability to lead security initiatives within an organization. I wanted to enhance my strategic thinking and decision-making skills, ensuring I can effectively manage cybersecurity risks while aligning security efforts with business goals. 

Expectation vs. Reality

I expected the certification to provide me with a deep dive into leadership principles in cybersecurity, offering practical knowledge for managing teams and dealing with complex security issues.

While the certification met my expectations in terms of leadership principles, I was pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive approach to understanding business alignment, risk management, and effective communication within security operations. The real challenge was applying these concepts in the real world—taking theoretical knowledge and implementing it in a constantly evolving security landscape.

What mattered the most during this certification journey was the emphasis on integrating security with business strategy. I took the official SANS course, a weekly program that provided an in-depth dive into the material, along with simulations and practical exercises. This approach was invaluable, not just for passing the exam, but for truly understanding the content. For the open-book certification exam, having a well-organized index and comprehensive notes was crucial for passing."
