About the Certification

Why did i pursue this Certification
Understanding ahacker's tools and thoughts is essential for managing our security strategy androadmap, ensuring that the security effort is aligned with the threat picture.
Expectation vs. Reality
I got a lot more outof this certification than I expected. I had expected to get confirmed manythings I already knew and hopefully fine-tune some areas.
But because of thecontent and because it was a focused course where I had the time to deep-diveinto some areas in which I have a great interest, it was an absolute pleasure.Especially since after each subject, there were labs where you carried out thevarious attacks yourself, which gave good insight into tools and how they areused.
Reflecting back: What Mattered Most
It was exciting andeducational, but what I thought I got the most out of and can use in myeveryday approach and consulting regarding security, I would say
- Best practices for securing OT
- In-depth IoT security practices
- Tools to use in the reconnaissance phase, which also can be used in a vulnerability assessment
- Avoiding security breaches & sustaining compliance
The Most Helpful Resources
EC-Councilcertifications seemed a lot like SANS. They require that you buy access to thematerials from different partners and cannot just self-study and take the exam.
In that case (andbecause of the topic), I chose to do it through Readynez, on a focussing coursein Sweden.
in addition, I choseto buy the CEH v11 Study guide from Sybex, which was a great assistance to be abit prepared before the course
