BP + E5 Security

Business Premium + M365 E5 Security

Microsoft has added new service add-on. Microsoft E5 Security together with Business Premium. What not to like

Abstract?

As I often emphasize in my blog, my goal is to simplify complex topics and support organizations on their cybersecurity journey—regardless of their size. A strong foundation is always the priority.

Microsoft’s recent addition of Microsoft 365 E5 Security as an add-on to Business Premium is a game changer.

  • Rather than duplicate standard details already covered in depth by others—such as the Microsoft blog linked below—I want to share my perspective on why this is such a significant shift.

The SMB Challenge: Balancing Cost and Security

One of the biggest challenges for SMBs is striking the right balance between cost and security. How much security is enough? Microsoft’s licensing model can sometimes be unclear, leaving businesses uncertain about what they truly need.

Many organizations rely on their advisors recommendations when it comes to add-ons and security decisions. However, cybersecurity is not just about purchasing tools - it’s about how to use the tools you have. Security is always a balance between people, processes, and technology, driven by risk-based decision-making.

Why This Add-On Matters

This new Microsoft 365 E5 Security add-on helps simplify complex security decisions. Changes in Microsoft’s licensing structure can have broader implications beyond simply adding another license. The value of this particular add-on, when combined with Business Premium, is substantial.

As a Security Director and cybersecurity advisor, I encourage every company to assess their existing licenses and find the right balance between cost and security. If you have the tools but aren’t actively using them, then even the best security solutions won’t provide value. The key is to ensure that your security posture is maintained and continuously improved.

Do you use the service below, and if yes, for what?

Security Is Not Just About Buying More Tools

Good cybersecurity isn’t always about purchasing new tools—it’s about implementing best practices and maintaining strong security hygiene. If you're unsure whether your current licensing makes sense for your organization, talk to your service provider.

As a Security Director at itm8, I focus on helping businesses align security with productivity and their overall digital journey. Our approach is built on the Microsoft Management Suite, emphasizing that security should be an integrated part of the organization, not just an add-on.

I won’t dive deep into technology in my blogs—that’s not my focus. Instead, I aim to create awareness and provide strategic insights. In this case, my key message is simple:

Don’t pay for what you don’t need, but don’t neglect what you should be using.

Hopefully the next blow will be regarding Microsoft 365 Purview add-on to Business Premium 😉.
